If the system is a complete self-contained package like a cell phone, it can work independently in the hands of an operator. But many systems have to work along with some other systems. This forces the designer to work in collaboration with the host system designer. If the system is to be placed in another larger unit, the system interface for physical mounting, the size, shape and weight all have to be accommodated to the host unit. Power consumption and temperature distribution have to analyzed. System behavior under operation and storage environmental condition has to be analyzed and tested. System firmware has to be developed and loaded into the system via a serial port or an Ethernet port.
